National Midwifery Week – Thank You, Midwives

October 3, 2019

To the midwife who missed tucking the kids in for bed… again.

To the midwife who has to respond to another invitation by saying, “If I’m not at a birth.”

To the midwife comforting someone who needs to transport to the hospital and won’t get a home birth this time.

To the midwife holding a hand during a c-section.

To the midwife who had to deliver some terrible news.

To the midwife who just crawled into bed only for the phone to ring with another person in labor.

To the midwife casually talking about placentas with another birth worker over breakfast.

To the midwife who is questioning their calling.

To the midwife who is sleeping on the floor while a client is in labor.

To the midwife who had to miss the kids first day of school.

To the midwife teaching a family about feeding their baby for the first time.

To the midwife crying in the car after a tough birth.

To the midwife crying in the car after an amazing, butter birth.

To the midwife who is holding space for a family who just miscarried.

To the midwife who hasn’t slept in days.

To the midwife who can’t imagine doing anything else.

Thank you for giving so much of yourself to each and every family you serve. You are changing lives in more ways than you can imagine. This week we celebrate your hard work and endless sacrifice and honor your commitment to families around the world.
