Becoming a parent for the first time can be so overwhelming, it’s also such a life changing experience. So much so I feel like the phrase “life changing” doesn’t even do it justice.
When Lyla was born, just two days after our first anniversary, we HAD NO IDEA what we were getting ourselves into. We had a super rough birth that landed me in the ICU for three days, which meant a tough physical recovery and bed rest once we made it home. While I was in the ICU Chris had to take care of Lyla since the hospital was no place for a newborn who couldn’t even nurse due to all the tests and medications and blood transfusions I needed. All the while we had friends, who are like family, who brought us food, changes of clothes, random things from the store and so much love and support.
It was finally out turn to return the favor for the Perry’s with little Oliver! Since Chris and I were the first of our friend group to get married we had to wait nearly 5 years before another little monster joined our group. I’m sure having a close friend who is a birth photographer can make for an awkward situation if you don’t actually feel comfortable with birth photos, but luckily Audrey and Landon welcomed me in to document their birth experience.
Landon was the epitome of a supportive partner, he never left Audrey’s side for even one second. Along with the help of their doula, Hillary, Audrey worked through hours of contractions before receiving the news that she would need a c-section. Although things didn’t quite go as planned, we were all so relieved for a healthy delivery with no complications.
Side note: Oliver was by far the fuzziest little newborn I’ve ever seen.
