2016 Birth Photos of the Year

January 12, 2017

When I made the switch to documentary photography last year (families, birth, and business) I was worried it would take some time to get acclimated and have regular clients. Birth photography in this area is not uncommon, but still widely misunderstood.  Those who are against it tend to think that it’s all about the delivery and will include lots of nudity and blood. I will gladly prove them wrong.

This year I photographed 12 births in hospitals, homes, and birthing centers, with midwives, doctors, and doulas. There has been joy, but there has also been heartache as families say goodbye to their precious babies only moments after saying their first “hello.” This honor I have as a birth photographer is not one I take lightly. I treasure each and every story I am invited in to capture.

Thank you to each and every family for trusting me with your memories, I look forward to what 2017 will bring.
